On some open problems in reflective inductive inference

چکیده
In this paper we show that there exist classes of functions which can be learnt by a finite learner which reflects on its capability, but not learnable by a consistent learner which optimistically reflects on its capability. This solves the two mentioned open problems from [Gri08].

Reflective Teaching in ELT: Obstacles and Coping Strategies
The present study aimed to document the constraints and limits in applying reflective teaching principles in ELT settings in Iran from the teachers’ perspective along with solutions and coping strategies to help remove the obstacles. 60 teachers teaching general English at 6 language institutes were selected through convenience sampling. First, the teacher participants filled out a reflectivity...
متن کاملRobust Separations in Inductive Inference
Results in recursion-theoretic inductive inference have been criticized as depending on unrealistic self-referential examples. Barzdin proposed a way of ruling out such examples, and conjectured that one of the earliest results of inductive inference theory would fall if his method were used We refute Barzdin’s conjecture. We propose a new line of research examining robust separations; these ar...
متن کاملA Preliminary Report on a General Theory of Inductive Inference
Some preliminary work is presented on a very general new theory of inductive inference. The extrapolation of an ordered sequence of symbols is implemented by computing the a priori probabilities of various sequences of symbols. The a priori probability of a sequence is obtained by considering a universal Turing machine whose output is the sequence in question. An approximation to the a priori p...
متن کاملThe Problem of Analogical Inference in Inductive Logic
We consider one problem that was largely left open by Rudolf Carnap in his work on inductive logic, the problem of analogical inference. After discussing some previous attempts to solve this problem, we propose a new solution that is based on the ideas of Bruno de Finetti on probabilistic symmetries. We explain how our new inductive logic can be developed within the Carnapian paradigm of induct...
متن کاملMulti-Pattern Languages
We investigate languages consisting of words following one of the given finitely many patterns. The issues concerning such multi-pattern languages are relevant in inductive inference, theory of learning and term rewriting. We obtain results about decidability, characterization, hierarchies and special classes of multi-pattern languages. Some open problems are also presented.
